Testimonial Presented to Dickens
Facsimile, in the orginial frame, of a testimonial presented to Dickens by the citizens of Birmingham in 1853 (the orignial is now too delicate to display). The testimonial thanks him for the books he has written and for his efforts to "instruct the social mind of the country to establish a kindly sympathy between all classes - to reconcile men to the discipline of calamity and the harsh treatment of fortune, and to maintain in its integrity that great law of God which teaches us to feel that all mankind are brothers."
