Charles Dickens by Marjorie Rodgers
This painting is a copy of the famous "Nickleby Portrait" of Dickens by his friend, Maclise. Although this is now in the National Portrait Gallery, it was originally owned by Dickens and was engraved as the frontispiece to Nicholas Nickleby. Dickens wrote all of Nicholas Nickleby while he lived here at 48 Doughty Street. This replica was presented in celebration of the Jubilee of the Dickens Fellowship by Leslie C. Staples in 1952.
