Dickens Children
Dickens's children, 1841
Charley, Mamie, Katey, and Walter
When Dickens and Catherine visited America in 1842, they took with them this specially commissioned portrait of their children, who were too young to travel and stayed in England. The picture has been specially loaned to the museum by its present owner, Cedric Charles Dickens, to form the centrepiece of the new family display in this room.
