Join Lucinda Dickens Hawksley and family and friends for an exclusive party celebrating a very special Christmas Carol anniversary. On 19 December, to mark 175 years since the publication of Dickens’s iconic “ghost-story of Christmas”, the Charles Dickens Museum will be opening its doors for an evening of mulled wine, mince pies and tales of Christmases past.
Come and discover how the Dickens family would have celebrated their own Doughty Street Christmases, wander around the museum at night, listen to readings from Dickens’s Christmas stories, and find out how Charles Dickens’s writing helped to shape the way the festive season is celebrated all over the world.
Lucinda’s special guests for the evening come from as far afield as New York City and include playwrights, professors and even a Beefeater! Join in the fun and learn about the history behind Dickens’s most famous Christmas story, as well as tales of his friends and family. There’ll be mulled wine and mince pies, as well as the chance to buy Dickensian Christmas gifts and to have your books signed by the authors.
Lucinda is a great great great granddaughter of Charles and Catherine Dickens, a patron of the museum and the author of Dickens and Christmas. Lucinda and her specially invited guests, will welcome you into her ancestors’ home and help you discover the true spirit of a Dickensian Christmas.
