Visit Us Safely!

We're looking forward to welcoming you back to the Museum and wanted to reassure you that there are some changes in place to ensure you have a safe, relaxed and enjoyable visit.

Our opening hours are currently: Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm, with last entry at 4 pm.

The entire Museum is open, including shop, toilets and lift, so you won't miss out on anything. We also have a selection of drinks and snacks available through our café, which you can enjoy in the garden.

If you are eligible for free admission, please only book a ticket if you are confident you will be able to attend; the Museum has a very limited capacity and relies on admission fees for its survival.

Timed Tickets

We strongly advise that you pre-book your ticket to guarantee your access. We allow entry at 15 minute intervals to limit the number of people in the museum at any one time. This makes sure you have enough space, and gives you a wonderfully intimate experience of the Charles Dickens Museum.
Everyone, including those eligible for free admission, should book in advance online wherever possible. We will email your ticket to you, which you can then either print out or simply show us on your phone upon arrival. If you are buying tickets for other people, please be sure to let them know what name the ticket is under.
If you would like to visit at the end of the day (last admittance is at 4pm), make sure you arrive promptly to give yourself enough time to enjoy the whole museum before closing time.
We do try to accommodate walk-ins on the day, but this is subject to availability, so book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Staying Safe

Good To Go

If you are a regular visitor you will notice new signs and markers throughout the Museum. Please take care of yourself and others by keeping a safe distance from other visitors during your visit.

The Museum already has a one-way system in most areas, and we have made some small changes to further ensure social distancing. The route is clearly marked and our team is on hand to assist.

Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance and at key points throughout the building.

Face coverings are required throughout the Museum except in the garden.

We have installed protective screens at till points.

Enhanced Hygiene

Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance and at a number of points throughout the Museum.

In addition to daily professional cleaning, our staff will be regularly cleaning throughout the day, including disinfecting door handles, surfaces and lift buttons.

We would be grateful if visitors could make payments by card if possible.
