Dickens's Dream Tea Towel

£11.50

Indulge in the exquisite 100% cotton tea towel featuring a captivating portrayal of 'Dickens's Dream,' a timeless masterpiece exhibited at the Charles Dickens Museum.-

R.W. Buss (1804-1875) was initially hired by Dickens's publishers, Chapman and Hall, to provide two illustrations for Dickens's first full novel, 'The Pickwick Papers.' However the publishers were disappointed with the illustrations provided by Buss, and the job was given to Hablot Browne instead. Buss, however, remained a lifelong admirer of Charles Dickens, and produced several paintings, celebrating the author's work.

This oil painting, featuring Charles Dickens ethereally surrounded by the characters of his imagination, was created after Dickens died in 1870. It was initially intended to be fully colourised, however Buss himself died before he could complete this magnum opus. It remains a testament to Buss' artistic skill and devotion to Dickens's literary impact.

There is a link which includes a key to all of the characters in Dickens’s Dream.
