To celebrate our current exhibition, 'Mutual Friends: The Adventures of Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins,' we're delighted to offer a Reading Club, to help you immerse yourself into the writing of these two literary giants.
Expertly led by Jane Gibney, you'll spend each session exploring some of the remarkable writing by these two Victorian writers. Beginning with 'The Frozen Deep,' written by Wilkie Collins, collaborating with Charles Dickens, this incredible short story is full of melodrama. Charles and Wilkie loved to perform the theatrical version of this story, and even performed it before Queen Victoria.
You'll then explore Wilkie's 1879 novel, 'The Haunted Hotel,' before finishing off with an 1858 collaborative work 'The Haunted House,' which was written by 6 authors, including Charles and Wilkie, and was published in Dickens's periodical, 'All The Year Round.'
This is a light-hearted Reading Club, looking at some of the key themes and context of the stories, and is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself into some incredible stories, learn more about the life and works of Charles and Wilkie, as well as meeting some like-minded readers.
Tea and coffee is provided, but please note that entry to the historic house is not included with your Reading Club ticket.
Book your tickets today!
Please note: We have a limited number of the stories available, however you may wish to source your own copies in advance of the session.
