Pickwick Papers - Book of 15 Prints

£199.00

Henry Lemarié was a well-known French illustrator, descendant from Jean-Antoine Watteau through his mother. He spent part of his childhood in England that he knew well and was fond of landscapes, customs and art of living. With his English wife Dora, he made a new picturesque translation of The Pickwick Papers that he had always dreamt to illustrate. So, all along his life, in between other ordered painted works, he prepared “his work”. He drew and travelled around England to find every precise detail which would fit to Dickens’s world and spirit. Each scene drawn was a little picture full of life, humor, thanks to a crowd of characters that he portrayed so beautifully!

When he met Jacques Michot, a famous French engraver and printer, loving art to the tip of his fingers, he knew he had found the right person. This extremely finical and precise work was able to be done through a technique newly completed and developed by Michot - Lithotypie.

Set of 15 lithotypie prints on Vélin d’Arches paper featuring scenes from The Pickwick Papers.

Each print is 280 x 225 mm (11.02 x 8.86") and stamped by the printer on reverse.
