![]() In celebration of our newest exhibition, ‘Showtime!’ and with the grateful support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’re delighted to bring you ‘These Pages Must Show,’ an immersive visit to the Charles Dickens Museum. Dickens created some of the most well-loved characters in English Literature, through a thirty-year career which began right here at 48, Doughty Street. Now we’re bringing some of these stories to life with ‘These Pages Must Show.’ As you explore the historic London home of Charles Dickens, you’ll encounter three of his most famous characters who’ll regale you with their stories and immerse you into their Dickensian world. You’ll learn more about what drove Dickens to write as he did, how each story came into being and what these characters reveal about Victorian life and society. Most importantly, however, you’ll have great fun as you interact with some of the most colourful figures from Dickens’s stories. Nancy The original ‘tart-with-a-heart’ brings vibrancy and attitude as she is reawakened for ‘These Pages Must Show.’ She’ll be telling you all about her exploits in the wonderful novel, ‘Oliver Twist’ and reveal the harrowing truth about the treatment of women in the 19th century. Sam Weller The cockney classic joins us to stir up some mayhem as he wanders through Dickens’s historic London home. The manservant from Dickens’s very first novel, ‘The Pickwick Papers’ is brimming with worldy-wise advice and huge doses of east London charm. But how easy was life really, for the many servants who lived and worked in Victorian London? Ebeneezer Scrooge The immortal villain-turned hero is unfurling his tight fist from the grindstone to make his appearance at 48, Doughty Street. He has much to say about his transformational journey in ‘A Christmas Carol’ and if you don’t find that a humbug, he may even share his thoughts on who held power in Victorian London and how we are called to treat one another today. This is a visit like no other, in which you are immersed both in Dickens’s London home and, through the power of these performances, into the vibrancy of Dickens’s written word. The best bit? Because this event has been generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, you won’t have to pay any extra for this event. Simply book your normal museum admission ticket and you’re in! Sessions take place on selected dates from 1pm to 5pm. See you there! |
