Nickleby Illustrations

In the late 1830s Dickens worked closely with Hablot Knight Browne, known as ‘Phiz’, on the illustrations for Nicholas Nickleby. In this successful partnership, Phiz supplied Dickens with preliminary sketches and Dickens returned them with comments written directly onto the artworks.
