Overseas Schools
The education team at the Charles Dickens Museum are always delighted to receive school-aged groups from overseas during term-time and the school holidays. Native English speakers are welcome to book a session from our formal schools programme, but for those with English as a Foreign Language, we offer a specific tours aimed at students studying English.
Overseas Explorer Tour
Onsite
This interactive tour features language based drop-in activities including speaking, writing and listening practise. We cater to students just starting out with their study of the English Language, through to those who have been studying for several years. Our drop in activities include examining the writing equipment Charles Dickens would have used and teaching students how to use quill pens and inks for themselves, investigating Dickens use of descriptive language and using dramatic techniques to create our own 'Dickensian' style readings and using storytelling methods and structures to allow students to create their own Dickens-esque story which brings to life the characters, spaces and objects that were familiar to Victorian audiences.
Cost:
Onsite - 2 hours.

Not able to bring your group to London? Why not join our education team on a tour around the Charles Dickens Museum without the travel! Sit back and relax as we show you the rooms Dickens and his family lived in, the objects that they used and fill you in on the background to his life and his work. We can grade this tour to suit the language ability of your group.
These tours can be booked as standalone experiences, or could be added on to one of our virtual Dickensian London Walks delivered by a blue badge guide.
Cost:
Online - 1 hour, one class, £120 (All year round)
Online - 1 hour, one homeschool household, £70 (All year round)
Discounts are available for Virtual Explorer Tours for multiple bookings from the same school.

To ensure that students get the most out of their visit, please contact the education team to discuss the level, age and focus of your group prior to booking.
We can accommodate a maximum of 30 students per booking slot. We have the capacity to run two half day sessions onsite each day from 10:00 – 12:00 and 13:00-15:00. Please note that for the safety of your group we require a minimum adult-to-student ratio of 1:10 for each onsite booking.
Online sessions can be booked at times to suit you subject to availability.
Please be advised that full payment is required in order to confirm your booking.
Amendments and cancellations must be made at least 21 days prior to your visit, after which no refund will be available.
