Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone, Scrooge! a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner!
Charles Dickens never wrote anything more universally loved than A Christmas Carol. This December, we invite you to enjoy Dickens’s enchanting masterpiece within the unique setting of his only surviving London home, now the Charles Dickens Museum. Come face to face with Ebenezer Scrooge as he flies off on his ghostly journey – and experience, as never before, this story’s unrivalled power to chill the marrow, tickle the funny bone and reawaken us to the true meaning of Christmas.
A yearly tradition at the Charles Dickens Museum, James Swanton’s celebrated performance has been praised by The Reviews Hub as an ‘electrifying one-man show’ that is ‘spellbinding from start to finish’ (★★★★★). James has previously taken Dickens to the West End’s Trafalgar Studios in the acclaimed Sikes & Nancy (‘fantastical … remarkable … startling and enthralling’ – Simon Callow) as well as performing all five of the Christmas Books at the Charles Dickens Museum (‘extraordinary … superb … it couldn’t have been more vivid!’ – Miriam Margolyes). He’s also played the title roles in two BBC chillers: ‘The Curse of the Ninth’ in Inside No. 9 and Lot No. 249, Mark Gatiss’s annual ghost story, for which The Telegraph called James ‘the scariest man on TV this Christmas’. A Christmas Carol is a heart-warming seasonal treat like no other – and advance booking is a must, as it always sells out.
