Promotional Brochure for 'Scrooge', 1935

This 1935 adaptation was the first feature-length version of A Christmas Carol to use sound – allowing Scrooge to speak for the first time on screen! It featured Seymour Hicks as Ebeneezer Scrooge, who had previously played the character in the 1913 silent film. Hicks became famous for portraying Dickens’s miser, first performing the role in 1901, he went on to act it over 2,000 times on stage.
