Reconsidered Corrections

The Frozen Deep was based on the ill-fated 1845 arctic expedition of Sir John Franklin to discover the Northwest Passage. Originally written by Wilkie, Charles heavily revised it, tightening the drama around his own character of Richard Wardour and downplaying some of Wilkie’s suggestions of class conflict among the explorers. Wilkie reworked the play in 1866 and this edition shows his ‘reconsidered corrections’.
