Dickens Crest China Mug
€18,95
Charles Dickens, like his father before him, claimed to be descended from William Dickens, who was granted the use of a crest in 1625. It was described as a lion couchant (lying down) bearing a Maltese cross in his right paw.
This was never proven, and Charles was unable to have an official crest granted by the College of Arms. Instead, Dickens simply created his own. In 1840 he had this image designed for him by a cabinet maker, John Overs. Dickens loved it. He had it stamped on items of furniture, book bindings and even his plates and silverware.
We’re delighted to bring you this beautiful china mug in celebration of this wonderful image.
