Satellite of Jupiter

Wilkie first wrote for Charles’s journal Household Words in 1852 and by September 1856 he was a permanent staff writer. While Charles insisted that no authors’ names would appear alongside contributions, ‘Conducted by Charles Dickens’ graced almost every page. Joining the Household Words made Wilkie’s professional subordination to Charles official – ‘one of the satellites of Jupiter’, as a contemporary reviewer put it.
