![]() Join us for a unique toy theatre double bill of Aladdin & The Sleeping Beauty in the smallest theatre in the world (on an even smaller stage), presented by David Powell, Judy Tcherniak and Alan Powers from Pollock’s Toy Museum! The Regency and Victorian craze for Toy Theatre rose and fell during Dickens’s lifetime, so it is only appropriate that he had one himself as a child. Enter Dickens’s world of toy theatre and enjoy some authentic Victorian entertainment, as the author would have experienced it. Starring cardboard actors and paper scenery, which are worked invisibly from behind and were traditionally presented in the parlour to an audience of family and friends, this historical theatre performance will be fun for young and old alike!
An enthusiastic toy theatre performer, 1845 by John Leech, who illustrated 'A Christmas Carol' two years earlier *** Pollock’s Toy Museum was founded by Marguerite Fawdry in 1956 at 44 Monmouth Street, Seven Dials, an area well known to Dickens. It is currently based at 49 Whitgift Centre, Croydon, with a smaller pop-up in the City of London at 32 Leadenhall Market. For more information about their events, exhibitions and workshops, visit the Pollock's Toy Museum website. Dates: Saturday, 6th September 2025 12:00pm & 2:00pm Tickets: £20 Adults / £18 Concessions
