"And it was always said of him that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us!"

Charles Dickens is credited with re-popularising Christmas with his immortal novella, 'A Christmas Carol.' Now you too can immerse yourself into the festive season of yesteryear, with a new book by Dickens's great-great-great granddaughter, Lucinda Dickens Hawksley.

'Victorian Christmas' is an utterly charming publication, drawing on historical recipes, traditional parlour games and Dickensian family entertainments, it represents the perfect 'how to' book for anyone wishing to soak up the festive atmosphere of the Victorian era. More than that, it is a fascinating look into the customs, practices and enjoyments of our Victorian predecessors.

Lucinda will be joining us at the museum on Saturday 16th November between 11am and noon, to talk about this incredible new book. She'll be there to answer any questions you have, sign copies of her book (copies available in our museum shop) and perhaps even suggest a few festive ideas for you to try.

If you don't live near London, never fear! We'll live stream this event so that you can hear Lucinda's fascinating insights, and ask any questions of your own. If you order copies of Lucinda's book through our online shop, you can also put in a request for Lucinda to sign your book too.

Lucinda Dickens Hawksley is the great-great-great granddaughter of Charles and Catherine Dickens. She is an historian, author and broadcaster having published titles such as 'Dickens's Christmas,' 'Dickens's Artistic Daughter: The Life and Loves of Katey Dickens,' and 'The Mystery of Princess Louise.' She is patron of the Charles Dickens Museum and President of the Dickens Fellowship.
